Nashbar Jersey Review

Nash Trash, that’s what I heard all Nashbar brand products called back in the 90s.  Nashbar brand items had a reputation for being cheap and clunky, but before the explosion of online shopping the Nashbar catalog was about the only place for the average person to get low cost cycling gear.

IMG_3341In 2006 I bought 2 white basic jerseys from Nashbar.  These weren’t my first jerseys, I had a couple others, but these two jerseys have seen more use than any others.  I decided that I needed white jerseys so I’d be cooler in the summer heat and I of course didn’t want to spend much so Nashbar was the ticket.

Now in 2014 after 8 years of use the jerseys are looking pretty rough.  I now own maybe 20 jerseys now but I almost always grab one of these two first, especially mountain biking.  Why?  They can’t really look any worse and I’m hoping that one day they’ll end up torn up enough to throw away.

So the Nashbar jersey isn’t made of a stretchy material like more expensive jerseys.  It’s more a loose hanging jersey then a clingy style.  The material is light, but not super thin, and it’s got good breathability.  They have three pockets which were at one time held up close with elastic that has long sense lost any semblance of elasticity.

I customized this jersey a few years ago.

The main thing that the Nashbar Jersey has going for it is durability, despite having numerous areas of damage, rips and tears, the stitching is still perfect.  I’ve had two other jerseys’ pockets come unstitched which makes for a fun time trying to find your stuff.

The biggest problem, even when new, was the pockets, put much in them and the jerseys pulling down and chocking your neck, though this happens on any looser fitting, non elastic jersey.

Calling anything that provides 8 years of quality service Trash is just plain ignorant.  They may not be cool, and they may not fit like a racer, but Nashbar jerseys deliver where it counts.

I have an OLD pair of Nashbar biking shorts and they have been great. But I bought 3 inner tubes last year that were nothing but junk. I have given up on Bike Nashbar because I was wasting too much time shopping their website and finding out that the only size in many items were XXsmall or xxlarge or sold out.
